There’s nothing we love more for multitasking than listening to a business podcast so today we want to share our favorite podcasts for newborn photographers! Whether we’re driving kids to appointments, cleaning our offices, or cooking dinner for our families, chances are we have our earbuds in and we’re absorbing valuable knowledge. Paige focuses on elevating her newborn photography techniques, while I’m always on the lookout for fresh copywriting insights.
In this post, I’ll share our favorite podcasts that have helped shape Paige’s newborn photography business and influenced our approach at Flow & Format. From marketing tips to mindset shifts, these audio gems offer insights that keep us inspired. (also, p.s. did you know there’s an entire catagory on this blog dedicated to marketing tactics for newborn photographers? You can check it out here.)
We got together recently for one of our classic work-staycations in downtown Boise. We love these as a great way to really focus on getting some of the heavy work done in Flow & Format. But we won’t lie, we also love sitting over drinks and brainstorming big ideas. This year we pulled up our podcast apps to create this list of the photography and business podcasts we love and episodes that stand out specifically with newborn photographers in mind.
Paige went through a major restructuring of her business in 2020/2021 as the pandemic shut down a lot of her sessions but she was also building her dream studio. And as we formed Flow + Format in 2023, we started thinking about what we offered in a different way, with an audience of newborn photographers and not clients looking for photography. The client experience and that brand promise thread became so important to us and so you’ll see many podcasts that focus on those topics.
Paige’s faves have a more heavy photography business slant, but she still loves a good general podcast that gives her ideas on how to implement things in her business.
Paige has been a premium member of Photo Biz X for a few years now because she loves the extra value you get in the snippets of interviews that Andrew keeps back for his paying members. “Andrew’s podcasts are incredible, he does such a great job of pulling out so many nuggets of wisdom from his guests. I feel like I learn something new every single episode- even when it’s a guest that I initially didn’t think I’d have any common threads with.” -Paige
And Paige has been a guest on it! You can check out her episode here:
Everything You Need For A Successful Newborn Photography Business
Paige met John through Photo Biz X and they now talk frequently about their businesses. Paige has taken a number of John’s courses and been on his podcast, check out her interview about the power of texting here:
Using Texting Within Your Photography Business
And Gill has been on too! She talked all about brand voice and a bit about our mission here at Flow + Format:
Finding Your Studio’s Voice Through Copy
This is not a photography-based podcast – it’s about manifestation and motivation. Paige loves the ‘tough love but you can do it’ attitude. “Dustin makes me want to get up and make $h*t happen.” -Paige
Want to try it out? This is one of Paige’s faves from this year:
Paige has been listening to this one for at least 5 years and it’s not surprising. Jenna’s a photographer who has been moving more and more into marketing through the years and is great for newborn photographers looking to up their business game, especially if you’re just getting started with different marketing and social media tactics.
Paige’s fave recent episode?
April 22 – AI can’t do this for your copywriting strategy
Okay, we’ve edited out all Gill’s linguistic obsessions to give you newborn photography podcasts you might actually be interested in. They are:
Brittany is someone Gill’s grown up with in the copy world and she loves her straightforward advice when it comes to the overwhelming world of SEO.
Gill’s fave episode? Well that would have to be the one with Copywriter Queen Laura Belgray:
Organic Marketing The Laura Belgray Way
Paige and Gill have both been listening to this one for years. It’s another great all-rounder podcast that covers lots of marketing topics and is really easy for those of you looking to build general skills in this area. Gill’s favorite episode? Well that would have to be the one on Amy’s Brand Voice Guide – which was written by Gill’s co-teacher in Brand Voice Academy, Justin Blackman.
What I Include In My Brand Voice Guide (& How It’s Served Me Really Well)
As a copywriter, Gill loves learning how choosing the right words can directly affect the choices your readers make. This podcast is a great one for breaking down how our brains make those decisions, and how we as business owners can (responsibly) use that information.
This 20 minute episode is one of Gill’s recent faves:
10 psychological tactics to write better emails
This is a great podcast on general marketing topics. Gill loves the interview format as it keeps it fresh and interesting every episode. Another one Gill’s been on!
Exploring The Impact of AI On Brand Voice
Listening is great, but action is key. After each episode, jot down one takeaway you can implement in your newborn photography business. Small, consistent changes can lead to big results over time.
But word of warning from Paige, sometimes inspiration from podcasts leads to shiny object syndrome and has us bouncing around, leaving tasks unfinished while we try new things. Be sure to take it all in and assess whether it’s the next best step for your business- or something to keep in mind for down the road.
What podcasts have helped you grow your newborn photography business? Share in the comments – we’re always on the lookout for new inspiration!
The world of newborn photography- and particularly marketing tactics for that world are always evolving. By tuning into these podcasts, you’re investing in your business growth, one episode at a time. Happy listening, fellow newborn photographers!
